Yes, the "8 glasses a day" is a myth. In fact, if you eat a reasonable amount of vegetables you theoretically don't have to drink any water, and still be plenty hydrated.

Your colon if it's working properly can and WILL absorb a LOT of water, which you then urinate out.

Your body likes to be at a certain osmolality, and too much water dilutes that.

Too little water, and your thirst center is triggered.

The body is a pretty clever mechanism.

“that black children were more likely to be dehydrated than whites”

Demand hydrological justice!

Most people do not suffer this problem with water.

Most people suffer inadequate hydration.

The real worry here is the racial inequality. Obviously caused by privileged white cis Christian males. The solution is to take 40% of their water and give it to the dry oppressed ones.

I drink from the tap daily and I never had any problems aside from stomach pain, ulcers, acid reflux, constipation, and some kidney stone thingy.

Seniors are especially warned to "keep hydrated". Preventing kidney stone growth needs a great deal of water!

In my brother’s school, when a kid gets too antsy, they give him a bottle of water.

I've always laughed at the tv ads urging people to drink liquids when they're thirsty. As if people would never do those things unless urged to by tv hucksters.

I don't know the amount of water the average adult or child drinks per day, but I'm pretty sure since the dawn of humans, when they got thirsty, they drank water. Nobody had to tell them to do it. I'm waiting for the tv ads that tell people to eat food when they're hungry.
