You can never run a car on hydrogen in an efficient way. Simple thermodynamics tells us that it takes more energy to extract the hydrogen from water then the energy we can get from it. Electricity, aka batteries are the most inefficient source of power we have, and biofuels make as much sense as burning food for fuel.
