Smash Mouth's Steve Harwell Seeks Street Justice for Audience Member Who Pegged Him With Bread
SF Weekly ^ | Mon, Jun 15, 2015 | Matt Saincome

Steve Harwell, the singer of Smash Mouth, completely lost his composure onstage yesterday at Taste of Fort Collins, a three-day music and food festival which is, according to its website, "A family-friendly celebration perfect for Northern Coloradoans' active lifestyle."

Apparently, part of that active lifestyle includes throwing bread at an increasingly irate Harwell. According to The Coloradoan, who broke the story, the bread was being given away for free by some of the festival's food vendors.

In the video, Harwell openly challenges the people throwing bread to a fist fight in a profanity-laced tirade, then jumps off stage in an attempt to confront a suspected bread-tosser before security cuts him off.

But the best part of the video is undoubtedly how the rest of the band (who I assume are only still together due to the belief that another Shrek movie is in production) starts playing (and singing) the band's 1999 hit, "All Star" as Harwell paces the stage back and forth, fuming with rage before making a quick exit.

So these are likely people who lambaste the “one percent” for their excess, but waste food someone else could actually use for a meal.

If it had been Melba Toast ... I shudder to think what could have happened.

He might want to change the name of the band from Smash Mouth!

I’ll say this though. The opening sound of the song “Walking on the Sun” is one of the best basslines in music.

The riot police should have broken out their croutons and got this under control.

That joke was a bit crusty. Quit loafing, you knead new material!
