Cyndi Lauper, Van Morrison and Lady Gaga have all been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The stars received their honours at a three-hour ceremony in New York, and many expressed surprise in their acceptance speeches...
...The Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia, was also inducted posthumously alongside the band's lyricist Robert Hunter.
Country artists Toby Keith, who has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide, and Bobby Braddock, who wrote Tammy Wynette's DIVORCE, were also honoured.
And "poet laureate of the blues" Willie Dixon, who died in 1992, was cited for songs including Hoochie Coochie Man, I Just Want to Make Love to You and You Can't Judge a Book by the Cover...
Gaga won the contemporary icon award, receiving her trophy from jazz star Tony Bennett, with whom she recorded an album of duets last year...
The singer also covered the 4 Non Blondes hit What's Up in tribute to fellow honoree Linda Perry, who penned that song, as well as Christina Aguilera's Beautiful and Pink's Get The Party Started...

True. It was written by Paul Pena. Here's a video of Pena singing Jet Airliner on The Conan O'Brien Show. I like both versions but I have to say I like Pena's bluesy version a little more.
Braddock also wrote THE classic country song: “He Stopped Loving Her Today”.
I know but he resurrected it and sang it well that’s worth something. He resurrected a lot of old jazz/blues.
A wee late for Hunter-Garcia.

Agreed. In fact, Hunter-Garcia tower over the rest of these pop artists as songwriters. But the pop world never understood the Dead - fooled by the name perhaps. The pop world also doesn’t have the patience to appreciate anything other than a snappy, three-minute song that gets played the same way every time in concert, and complain when it’s not exactly what they expect.
The Dead created imagery and artistry like no other band. They were the last troubadors.
My favorite concert on Youtube:

Bobby Braddock is from Polk County, FL., and we’re very proud of that. He’s very deserving of the award.
I would suggest the most deserving of the bunch. A songwriter in the classic sense.

A fun fact...
Boz Scaggs was in Steve Miller’s band before going solo.
A fun fact...
Steve Miller was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin! I love my Hometown Boy! His concerts were a blast back in the day. His music is still wonderful to my ear.
He’s had an amazing career...all the right people were put in his path along the way, that’s for sure! Les Paul! T-Bone Walker! Ben & Leo Sidran! Bozz Scaggs (as you mentioned...)
Good for Willie Dixon, anyway. He was an all pro at Chess Records - from writing to playing bass to producing.
Jet Airliner was written by Paul Pina.
I'm sure Jerry would be grateful. As well.
Thanks for the link. An excellent concert/movie. I finally got around to watching it.
Long story.
While watching it, I noticed that there was another concert a month later, at the Greek Theater.
I’m going to take a peek at that one, just to see if it is vastly different or if they just mailed it in.
