Enjoyed my years engaging in discussions on Free Republic, but I am done. Time to face reality.
Vanity

Posted on 06/23/2015 2:12:20 PM PDT by Codeflier

Please forgive the vanity...

Over the years, I have really enjoyed participating in Free Republic discussions on a great variety of topics. Even when there was strong disagreement, Free Republic brought me a sense of connection with others that always seemed to have a purpose.

Unfortunately, I now see clearly that it is over for the US. The constitution has no meaning and we are essentially under mob rule. There is no party to turn to and all the politicians are in collusion to game the system. I think we have reached a stage where this is all going to unravel economically and socially much faster than most people think.

Everything being pushed that most of us are against will come to fruition, with no chance of stopping it. I also realize that there will be no pushback, or moment of "hell no", despite all the brave talk of those behind keyboards. All the big talkers will eventually give up their first and second amendment rights with hardly a whimper.

I am basically going to disconnect, discontinue following politics, and quit voting. I refuse to be Charlie Brown with Lucy and the football any longer. I will now concentrate strictly on my own preparations with my family for when this all goes belly up. Honestly, at this point I would rather it all just go ahead and collapse sooner rather than later.

For my own sanity, I just need to tune it all out from now on.

I hit that place a few years ago. I am still on FR (obviously); but, I rarely listen to Rush anymore. I turned in my voter card a while back as I consider the voting process, at this point in time, to be so corrupted that one cannot be certain that the outcomes we have are actually reflective of the vote that took place. I decided to refuse to participate in what I consider to be a corrupt system.

I think part of it is a feeling of helplessness. That no matter what you do, the outcome is always the same. You think that you are voting for someone who will try to change the system; but, they are inevitably swallowed up by that system. So, I have checked out -- not from everything; but, I try to not get so upset by things that I cannot change.

My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: / For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. / If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? / But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

— Hebrews 12:5-8
Stern warning there, although encouraging.

So other than calling people names what is your solution for people who feel like “it’s over”, “it’s done”?

What type of suggestion do you have to offer to millions of Americans who love their country but now see they have been sold down the river by the corruption in Wash DC?

Endearing! To whom precisely?

Surely you don't mean to imply that you are unfond of me.

I know exactly how you feel, Codeflier. It is a disgust.. that centers in your gut and makes you ache. Believe me, love, I’ve had nights where I can’t sleep because my mind keeps swirling. I took a break from FR for a month or two. I stopped watching the news and didn’t read anything political. I guess it was a mental health vacation of sorts. However, I enjoy the companionship of fellow FR’s. Yes... we don’t always disagree and TBH.. there are a few I’d like to throw a brick in their face but at the end of the day.. they are like minded individuals I’d like to throw a brick at. If you come back... great. If not and this is truly good bye.. I will miss you and wish you all the best. Love and hugs, Mom

The basic problem with the state of this Republic is two-fold, imo. We should at least try to address these two things before throwing in the towel:

1. Failure to adhere to the founders’ vision of a limited government with enumerated powers, as articulated in the 10th amendment. Just think of the reduction of our concerns/fears of an “out of control” federal government if there was no EPA, Dept of Education, Dept of Health, Federal involvement in welfare/food stamps, etc, etc.

2. Failure to restrict or limit the amount of money (or spending authority) available to the federal government, thereby giving those in power a virtual blank check to continue amassing power and control over our every day lives (think something on the order of a Balanced Budget Amendment with an upper limit clearly defined and tied to the nation’s GDP, or something similar).

If this country addresses these two things, we would have an all new ballgame. Other pressing issues such as immigration, national defense and other foreign affairs matters, infrastructure such as the interstate highway system, how to fund the limited federal government (eg system of taxation, etc.) would be much more manageable it seems to me.

So, give up? I say no, not until this mechanism given to us by the founders (Convention of States) is given a good old-fashioned try.

Oh, I haven't a formal plan laid out.. but just for kicks, I figure it would start out with:

"Don't be a pussy and a quitter, don't give up and shut up whining."

But then.. that isn't my job or my craft.

You asked.

I understand ....truly!

After the vote today, it was impossible to not dwell on our future...if there is one.

It would seem most of our politicians can be bought at a price....Where is Mr. Smith...did he go to Washington and get corrupted?

Thursday the Supreme Court votes on the sanctity of marriage....

For many many yearts Dr.James Dobson rallied the people to affirm this and took it to the states....and almost every state voted to sustain marriage between a man and a woman....
and then a liberal judge would nullify it.

I know Im not helping your depression....
Just letting you know....I’m there too.

God bless you.

There is no accountability in Government - none!

There is the Mob and the Elected simply pander to them.

Hard work is not valued. Moral values have been dispatched.

Mob Rule and the people that pander to the Mob.

It is not so much as disobeying it as they have stretched the meanings of the Constitution so far out of whack over the past 100 years that it is almost unrecognizable. A Convention of States would define things like the “interstate commerce clause” as it was intended and term limit representatives and repeal the 17th Amendment and return selection of senators to the state.

==...silent death of a culture, of a nation, of a way of thinking. That’s how most
nations, empires end....they just sort of crumble slowly from within...===

Cicero thought the same way:

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is
less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely,
his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a
traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness
that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to
undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”
