Why does it take these juries so long to come to a decision? One hour seems like plenty, and even that includes a coffee break.

Sometimes I wonder if these people get paid by the hour or something.

Last November, prosecutors offered Heath the chance to plead guilty but mentally ill to third-degree murder and related charges in exchange for a sentence of 28 to 56 years in prison.

Would a mentally ill person be able to understand this option?

The jury instructions are typically opaque, convoluted, and lengthy.

Our juries get paid ten dollars a day plus mileage.
