Question time....

Posted on 06/28/2015 7:02:15 AM PDT by HarleyLady27

Say somebody lived in a State that recognizes 'common law' marriages, and one of the partners of this couple (man and woman) was already married, and they lived together for say 15-17 years....would the man, having already being married to someone else, living with another woman, be committing polygamy????

In Texas, you have to “represent yourself as married”, as in say that you are married. So, if they were just shacking up and not saying they were married, no, I don’t think it would be bigamous. Legally anyway.

(I am not a lawyer.)

Of course it will all be moot, because polygamy will soon be found to be a civil right by judicial decree. The case may already be working its way through the courts.

Polygamy won’t become judicially mandated because of some Mormon offshoot cult in Utah or some polyamorous group marriage in California. It is going to happen first in a case involving a Muslim family who immigrated here from a Muslim country where multiple wives are perfectly legal.

Is the husband now a bigamist because he came here with several lawfully married wives? Are wives 2 and 3 no longer entitled to their marriage rights and simply reduced to being concubines? It’s not fair! It is Muslim-ophobia! How can you deny them their rights to define marriage as a man and multiple wives, when that definition of marriage has been accepted in cultures around the world since the dawn of civilization, while same sex marriage did not exist anywhere on Earth 20 years ago.

Once the Muslim with 2 wives gets judicially recognized, then the Mormon offshoot cults and polyamorous group marriages will also be recognized.

The devolution of Western Civilization will then be complete.

Exactly, the reason my aunt left her first husband the dude was handsome. Well this handsome man never bother to provide for his kids. My aunt had to get assistance and my mother would bring food to her or she would come over and take food. My parents helped her because of the no good to nothing “handsome” guy was just pure lazy, yet he would wear gold chains.

My parents consider my aunt first husband a good man. A hard worker and just plain nice. Nope my aunt didn’t want a “Nice” man she prefer the good looking one even though the good looking man would beat the crap out of her. My cousins would call to say to my mom that their father was beating the crap out of their mom. Well they stayed together until my aunt’s death.
