MALONE, N.Y. David Sweat, the surviving prison escapee on the run in northern New York for three weeks, was shot by a state trooper on Sunday, according to the authorities.
Mr. Sweat, 35, was alive and in custody, Sheriff David Favro of Clinton County said. He was taken to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. His condition was not immediately available.
The shooting occurred after Sgt. Jay Cook of the State Police saw a suspicious man walking down a roadway in the Town of Constable, accordin to the state police. The sergeant ordered Mr. Sweat to stop, but he broke into a run and the sergeant, a firearms instructor, opened fire, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. It was not immediately clear how many shots were fired or whether Mr. Sweat was armed.

Well, that didn’t take long, did it? (s.).
Even murderers cherish freedom.
I glad for two things. 1) They shot and wounded him. He deserved it for shooting at the camper someone was driving several days back; and, 2) he can now can rat out those people on the inside who helped him escape.
A shame more taxpayer money has to be expended on this human trash to keep him alive and housed back behind bars. Too bad he didn’t just shoot him through the head like his buddy. I dread to think how many taxpayer dollars must now be expended to keep their paramour, “Miss Tillie” behind bars for many years. A married woman, she had to look for extramarital excitement with two MURDERERS? I guess they’d be the only ones to appreciate her aged and ugly dubious charms. Love the one you’re with, etc.
Unless they were able to get a car, there was little chance those 2 guys would have gotten far. The mountains of upstate NY are really difficult to trek through. I’ve hiked them a number of times and they are really treacherous, so just imagine being on the run at the same time while going through them. People have dropped dead in those woods just by getting lost and never getting found until it was too late.
But he wasn’t killed.
This may end up blowing the top off the close relationship between the guards and custodians of Dannemora prison, and the inmates. The “honor” program, for sure, is shut down. There has to be a whole ring of prison personnel that have been involved in some way with inappropriate inmate relationships, and this is about to be exposed.
New York State being the hotbed of Progressive thinking it has been since the days of the Civil War and perhaps before, the next step may be to reduce the level of security at Dannemora to that of a minimum-security standing, and allowing the inmates community release.
But on the upside, Sweat living means he’ll be able to tell the full story and perhaps get more charges laid upon the prison staff that aided their escape.
Exactly...and it is not like they had broken-in hiking boots, top quality equipment, and the comfort of being a law-abiding person.
They shot him twice in the back, quick someone get Marilyn Mosby to charge the cops with police brutality
“A married woman, she had to look for extramarital excitement with two MURDERERS? “
No not at all. In her those two found a weak minded fool they could manipulate. It’s happened before and will happen again. She did not realize or took for granted how cunning they could be.
Constable NY is a good bit away from where they were previously, Wolf Pond Rd south of Mountain View Lake.
What if the man running wasn’t Sweat? What if he was a petty thief or some husband not paying child support? Lucky for those type of guys, that none were around at the same time period at that location. I may have missed something , but I don’t think Sweat was armed.
Sweat aint sayen crap, why,he cant plead down anything.
keep’s em guessing and pointing fingers at each other and wondering,Who’s the Rat??
I just heard the cops “strategically placed his shot” as to only disable sweat..Yea right..two in the back blows the crap out of every thing in its path, theres no non life threating back shot.....No fan of Sweat but looks like the cops are covering there butts on the shot in the back reports
I glad...
I’m glad because when ‘they’ make the movie about this, they can get dialogue between the two, where they hid, what route they took, any conflicts between the two. It will be one hell uva movie...
Well, good.
What did you expect, in a facility named "Clinton" Correctional? /sarc
I'm beginning to rethink the whole idea of woman suffrage. And I"m a woman. But after seeing how dumb many women's decisions are, and that most are liberal and vote for people like, oh, just any Democrat no matter how corrupt, I'm rethinking it.
