Word For The Day, Monday, 6/29/15
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
obdurate, adj.
1. unmoved by persuasion, pity, or tender feelings; stubborn; unyielding.
2. stubbornly resistant to moral influence; persistently impenitent: an obdurate sinner
Etymology: 1400-1450 1400-50; late Middle English obdurat < Latin obdūrātus (past participle of obdūrāre to harden), equivalent to ob- ob- + dūr (us) hard + -ātus -ate1
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
hitlery will use this as her rally cry to defeat whichever republican gets the nomination - vote for me or they will put you back in the closet!
Everyone - black/white - fears the ghetto rats who will steal from anyone or kill for a dollar. To claim it is racist to fear them is ridiculous.
I used to think he was OK, but why bother with this mantra?
Governor Abbott of Texas is telling the county clerks that they don’t have to issue marriage licenses for gays if it goes against their religious beliefs. I’m wondering how this will play out - will those clerks be sued?
sure as shooting they will.
Can’t say I disagree with the ill tempered one.
We lost this one.
If not at the Court it would have been at the ballot box. The Millennials are all about equality, in other words they are dumb.
what of the consequences to religious liberty? has he said peep one about that? bc that is all I am concerned about at this point.
and the point is, Kasich is sounding like a Dem saying that, where does he think he’s going to fit in to this mix of candidates and be able to win an election? he’s going to be the consensus candidate that DEMS will vote in sufficient numbers to make up for the religious voters who will spit his lukewarm self out of their mouths and stay home? um, no.
It’s toast.
See the Indiana RFRA of last month.
Oh there are already enough candidates splitting the “hey we can fight the Supreme Court vote to help us through the primary”
Actually I do not think that constituency is very big outside of FR or the Iowa caucus.
Public/private are two very different things. The clerks’ personal beliefs do not come into play here. Your governor is wrong.
We need to fight the fight where we have firm ground. Churches, private businesses, private associations. Not invite comparison to standing in the schoolhouse doors, using the official power of the state to withhold something from a minority.
Looks like a machine is being trained to be not only obdurate but amoral:

Lot of millennials are heading in the same direction. In my wildest fantasy, I don’t see them running this country.
This decision is resonating among my friends like no other has. They are not freepers and they live in VA.
We are doomed, A +++ sorry I’m fresh outta optimism these days.
Give them the dang marriage license, what is Caesar’s is Caesar’s.
They will want to be married at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and if they deny them the lawsuits begin. Hate is a powerful motive and they hate God. The Catholics have the most money, so it will start there.
Our legislature also passed a Religious Freedom act this session to protect the speech in churches, but I fear that will also be used against us because it probably protects anything said by radicals promoting violence.
There is a work around. The Church should do Holy Matrimony only. They should get out of the civil marriage business.
