The option that says create a new restore date is grayed out
Some viruses interfere with system restore to try to stop you from using it, that may be what is going on.
Try rebooting, then pressing the F8 key on the keyboard before the Windows screen comes up. Select “Safe Mode with Networking Support” from the boot menu. Then try running System Restore in that mode and see if it works.
If you can’t even turn it on, you have a bigger issue.
Make sure you are not confusing backup restore with restore points. These are easy to confuse.
Type restore into the Start menu search box. When the window opens, click on the link that says “Recover system settings or your computer”. CLick the button for Open System Restore and then click Next on the popup window. It should then list all of the restore points.
