Same here. Also from deep in S America (Tierro del Fuego I think), Geoffrey’s Cat, which the local zoo used to have on exhibit (haven’t been there in a while). They also used to have a Nile (Delta) Cat, which was in the herpetarium, think it’s long gone.

I have spent a fair amount of time in the Namib and Kalahari where these creatures live. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of them.

Looks like this blackfooted kind is a recent addition to the Philadelphia Zoo if anyone is close:

I had not heard of the Geoffroy’s cat prior. Here is info from Wiki. He looks a little like the Kodkod.

I’ll have to check out the Nile cat next. Thanks.

Our Mr. Bob is also spotted and has a tiny bit of desert lynx in him. He also has an odd personality. Not terrible smart and a bit distant and feral. He does love me and my daughter in law. Others not so much.

I’m no expert (full disclosure, I’m not even at all knowledgeable) on ths subject, but don’t those cats look as if they’d been previously domesticated?

I don’t mean the kitties in the pic, specifically, I mean the breed. I wonder if they’re feral descendents of pets from a not too terribly long ago collapsed polity in that AO.

They have some at the Columbia, South Carolina, zoo. Also a fishing cat, who wades around in his pond looking annoyed that there are no fish.

Sounds lie a racist kitty to me. Need to eradicate or just cut off feet.

Deceptive little monsters ... probably rip your face off if you give them the chance ....

I'm reminded of a scene in "Galaxy Quest" where the away team discovers the cute little aliens.

Let me know when you have the 3rd domesticated generation born, and I’ll buy one from you.

"Here is some info here..."

From the wiki article..."Apparently, they get all the moisture they need from their prey..."

No thank you. I bleed enough already playing with my furry little cat buddy.

I don’t think you can get the ‘wild’ out of them just by a few generations of domestication. It would take breeding with a domesticated cat, like the Savannah is bred:
