Bubba Watson, the third-ranked golfer in the world and owner of one of the official General Lee cars from the late 1970s TV show "Dukes of Hazzard" has decided to paint over the Confederate flag that adorns the top of the widely recognizable vehicle.

Watson tweeted his plans Thursday night about the car he bought at auction several years ago for $110,000.

@bubbawatson All men ARE created equal, I believe that so I will be painting the American flag over the roof of the General Lee #USA 7:18 PM - 2 Jul 2015

I think he should change his name to Troy since Bubba- is a racist name.

Or, he could donate the car to the NAACP, and they could literally “own the insult.”

Without the flag, it will just be a Generally Charger.

OK so we take a 66 Chevy and paint a Mexican flag on the roof and we film a few chase scenes going back and forth across the Southern border where the fence is supposed to be. And then write a trite story about Pablo and Juan Duque and their smoking hot cousin Dulcinea avoiding the schemes of the Border Patrol.

It'll play 24/7 on TVLand

sponsors probably have a gun to his head.

Watson is NOT smart enough to realize that you gain notoriety and prestige by winning golf tournaments... NOT through doing the "politically correct" thing aimed at bolstering your popularity.

Just because Watson is a top pro golfer doesn't necessarily mean that he is SMART, as proven by his din-bulb decision.

The person who originally painted the car could probably sue to stop him under the federal Visual Artists Relief Act.

That "General Grant" Charger looks pretty sweet.

I can't tell if the US flag on top has the accurate number of stars for the Civil War era.

As cool as it is, it would NEVER sell for $110,000.

If Bubba Watson actually paints over the General Lee, HIS car will be worth virtually nothing.

Donate it to a museum, and take the tax write-off if you hate the car so much.

Replacing the symbol of slavery with the symbol of abortion.

Instead of Bubba he should start calling himself Bubbles for being so soft and wimpy in the face of PC.

Already done. Wan Williams was going on about that on Fox News today. He said, “I bought a t-shirt that just says Washington Football!” Well, good for you, punk.

Actually, he fought for both. Robert E. Lee was a West Point graduate who fought in the Mexican-American War.

Watson is a devout Christian who speaks openly about his faith. I can see that the flag issue might make him uncomfortable on that level, too.

I'm inclined not to believe the latter part. He bought the car with the Confederate flag on the roof, apparently it didn't bother him too much to shell out for it in the first place.

Why doesn't everyone just cut to the chase and go up to the frigging archives and burn the Constitution and Bill of Rights, because that is where all this dreck is heading.

No, he should change his name to Blaine, or something equally unisexual. It's obvious he doesn't sport an applesack that qualifies him as a Bubba.

I hope sensitive Bubba goes all they way and renounces his oppressive heterosexuality and splurges for the trans surgery as well. ESPN might even give him an award then.

Thanks for jumping in with the correct info on Gen. Lee’s full service record. Historical ignorance abounds in this controversy and it seems FR is not immune, unfortunately.
