A high-profile shooting, like the June 17 crime that left dead nine members of a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina, is typically followed by calls for greater gun control, along with counter arguments that the best way to stop gun crimes is with more guns.
"The one thing that would have at least ameliorated the horrible situation in Charleston would have been that if somebody in that prayer meeting had a conceal carry or there had been either an off-duty policeman or an on-duty policeman, somebody with the legal authority to carry a firearm and could have stopped the shooter," presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said in a Fox News interview on June 19.

And Emory gritted their teeth and let him go. Clayton Cramer is the guy who did the heavy lifting on exposing Bellesiles. He is a software guy with an MA in history, so naturally the Lefty history PhD types look down their noses at him. Nevertheless, it helps a lot when you have the truth on your side, and Bellesiles didn’t. Cramer is worth reading in general.

There is no means to stop criminals from gaining arms. None. By definition criminals do not give a damn what the law says.
You have a human right to defend yourself. If you don't want to exercise it that's your decision but you have absolutely no right to tell anyone else that they may not.
Ask people who have been robbed, raped, assaulted or otherwise found themselves in a really bad spot -- with or without a gun. Those who had one are invariably happy they did, whether they got to use it or not. Those who did not have a gun with them at the time nearly-universally wish they did have one.

From my own personal life, my 16 yr old mentally delayed son was ambushed on his way home from school and beaten to death with a 2 ft section of FENCE POST by a Sociopath who wanted the jollies to see what it felt like to kill. Got a lousy 20 yr plea deal, I fought the first parole hearing 10 months after it. 5 More after that. Maxed out his ‘good’ behavior time. Including the 2 yrs it took to get to the plea deal with him in 201 Poplar jail in Memphis, TN he served 14.5 yrs. I’m his #1 target.
Then there is 8 year old Ashley Nichole “Nikki” Read who was beaten, raped, strangled with her own shoe laces, wrapped in her blanket and thrown in a river to finally drown. Her killer has maxed out all his appeals against Execution. 2 Juries found him guilty, DNA and a confession. Our COWARD RINO gov won’t sign the death warrant. 20 yrs on Death row going into 21.
