My father was born in,and brought up in,Southie in the teens/20's/30's.He was Irish and back then the Irish were the n**gers of Boson.Employers routinely posted signs saying "no Irish need apply".

But he worked hard and bought a nice house in Waban (part of Newton) and had it paid off in 6 years while supporting a wife (Mom didn't "work") and 4 kids.
