He proves the old adage that never get in the way of some one shooting them self in the political foot.
I think Trump has yet, to come down on the wrong side of any issue publicly.
His approval continues to improve.
They were poorly worded remarks but I doubt if it will have any impact on his polling. Anyone who was a Trump supporter before those remarks is not going to change their mind because of them. They know that he did not mean to disparage all POW’s, and it is highly likely that any Trump supporter cannot stand McCain.
The big loser is Walker by joining the bitchfest against Trump. He disappointed a lot of his fans.
It'll be interesting to see how many gaffe's gets away with before it hurts his "campaign."
Trump is too used to shooting from the hip. At some point he has to develop the discipline to not say stupid things if he's serious about going the distance in the primaries.
Not every remark is the result of some think tank position paper. Trump's tendency vis-a-vis his critics so far has been to engage in abrasive New York-style Jewish humor/sarcasm, with a bunch of throwaway remarks intended to get their goat. He prefaced his criticism of McCain by pointing out that McCain had called right-wingers crazies. His jab at McCain being a war hero only because he was a POW was intended to get him off his high horse, rather than as a general criticism of POW's in general. I suspect a good number people who've been following Trump's campaign will see it in that light.
“Improve 16 (50%)
No Impact 9 (28.1%)
Decrease 7 (21.9%)”
The tribe has spoken.
Trump isn’t really saying much different on this than a lot of Dems did in 2008, talking about how he was a crappy Naval officer and pilot who only made it through USNI and flight school because of his family Naval pedigree, was such a bad pilot that he got himself shot down, and was crazy. (er, “erratic”) because he was tortured.
The Dems did similar in 1988 and 1992 with George HW Bush, saying that he’d left his two TBM Avenger crewmen to die when he bailed out after being shot up.
Impact Poll, 10:45 PM (CST)
Improved - 84,8
No Impact - 11.5
Decline - 3.7
Looking at that poll now, with more than 1,600 votes, 90 something percent thing that Trump’s position will improve, with the rest saying it will have no effect and 2 percent saying it will decrease.
Something tells me the hysterical people condemning Trump for this have always been hysterical, and were the same people bashing Trump weeks and weeks ago.
