British Open: Amateur Paul Dunne soars to top of leaderboard

An amateur is leading the British Open.
Paul Dunne, a 22-year-old Irishman, claimed the top spot all to himself with a birdie on the 10th hole Sunday. That took his overall score to 11 under, pushing him ahead of a group that included Jordan Spieth.
Dunne played collegiately at Alabama-Birmingham and went through qualifying to earn his spot in the Open. He plans to turn professional later this summer and try to claim a spot on the European Tour.
For now, he's the one everyone is chasing at the home of golf. There hasn't been an amateur winner of the Open since Bobby Jones in

I was lucky enough to play there in 1989. Shot and 89 and worked my butt off for every single one of those shots.
Upper 50's, misty rain and about 10 Mph breeze. Most fun I have ever had on a golf course in my life.
Drove the green on #9 (from member tees - much shorter), and old scot guy paired with us shook his head and said, "Silly yanks".
I also parred the Road Hole!!! It was the other 16 holes that totally ate my lunch. LOL

I played a links style course link St Andy down in Orlando, Fla. Ate my lunch. I tried to play bump and run shots around the greens but it was a learning experience.
