Having the authority is not a license to abuse the authority. Police officer should exercise it only when it’s reasonably necessary. This woman obviously had a bad attitude but the police could have been the grownup, instead choose to escalate it.

There are some police officers who gets on a power trip and treat civilians like dirt. Happened to a friend of mine who by the way is white so it’s not racial. He spend a day in jail and had to be bailed out because when the police asked him for his ID he told them he left it in his car. They charged him with refusing to cooperate and arrested him. He’s now suing them.

Well I am glad your friend didn’t assault the cop and hang himself.

There was no abuse of authority in the Bland case. You can disagree with his law enforcement style, but he broke no laws and violated no rights.

That can happen.

Here, she refused to comply with a lawful instruction. The law says he can order her out of her car, and once he gave that order, he cannot allow it to be disregarded. Rule one of exercising authority.
