I’ve been doing remote computing on a daily basis for over 43 years, not that it matters. Clearly it is not the length of experience one has since you complain of repeatedly getting infected even though you have 32 years of experience.
As long as you avoid problem websites (like the ones your wife visits prior to getting infected), turn off java, set up a strong firewall, and use effective antivirus apps, you will significantly cut down on viruses and malware attacks. I wouldn’t doubt that your apple is already infected with something.
I wouldn't say two PC's in 32 years qualifies as repeatedly. As you are probably aware Rootkits are a problem within themselves, especially those that fly under daily MWB scans. Let's just say that the time spent being household IS tech to deal with that is more than I liked, You can't argue the point hat iOS is less prone to that, so this seems to be a great alternative.
