"I cannot condone killing wildlife unless for food."

That is your free choice. But is does not bequest nobleness or even sanity about your persona. Rather it is quite irrational and naïve. Most enlightened folks kill mice in their kitchen, rats in their garage and rattlesnakes in their back yard.

Some large, cute critters can kill a precious human that was only innocently fishing or picking berries in Alaska. Self defense is a quite strong reason to kill wildlife that one does not intend to eat. Such a list could go on and on but to what avail? It is suggested that you research the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

Sure, I’d shoot a large dangerous animal that attacked me in the woods. But I wouldn’t go out to hunt it down.
