Our president reeks of pestiferous essence, both his person and his policy.

That's the emissary of Beelzebub, Lord of the Flies, passing along the master's instructions.

Big, dark clouds were gathering when I stopped at the deli on the way home to get my favorite whole grain pita with turkey, cheese and veggies-by the time I got the gate opened and reached the end of the driveway, it was pouring...

All the democrats campaign
In every pestiferous city-
Pandering to the Roman mob
Beating them down with pity

Telling them not to worry-
Government will take care-
Because they are unable to
And life has been so unfair

They can ask for everything
And be told just what to do-
Getting bad food and shelter
And some magic koolaid, too...

The deli had free one-serving sample bags of some baked fat free potato sticks-I don’t like potatoes unless they are baked, but I took one of the little bags just for the hell of it. As soon as I took it out of the grocery bag, Husky girl went into sit-on-the-floor-and-stare begging routine, so I gave her a few of the things-and created a monster.

She ate as many as I’d give her, begged for still more, then followed me to the fridge when I put them away-I ate a couple of them and they are pretty much boring and tasteless to me. I’m about to bring the pita out to eat for dinner-I always mix some cheese, pita and turkey with her dog food, so maybe she will forget about the potato sticks-that health food brand stuff is way too expensive to be bought for dog treats...

A++++ Buffy got a piece of a chip from me today. God bless her, she never begs.

Thank you!

Even as a puppy, Husky girl’s begging method has been politely sitting on the floor and staring fixedly at the desired food item-quiet, and very effective...

I know there are a couple of fellow fans of Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Series here-I saw that BBCA is going to air a miniseries based on the first book-”The Last Kingdom” starting on October 10-I really like Cornwell, so I’ve ordered all those books from Amazon UK as soon as they came out-I’ll have to dig out that one and read it to refresh my memory before October.

Just a few minutes ago, I heard a solid thud in the direction of the road, so I went running up the driveway to see what was going on-just in time to see an SUV speeding away towing an out-of-control boat on a trailer, swinging from side to side, threatening to take the whole rig off into the ditch-and my mailbox was lying on the ground, knocked the 20 feet from the side of the road to the gate, pole and all.

Assh*** lost inconsiderate summer people-didn’t even try to stop-just sped away before I could get close enough to the road to get a plate number. I guess I’d better go out there and contrive a way to put the thing back up until I can get one of my guys come help me set a new pole-a metal one, and in concrete this time-if someone hits the damn thing again, I want to make sure the pole takes out their grille and maybe the radiator, too...

Isn’t leaving the scene of a property damage MVA illegal?

Technically it is-like in the case of hitting a parked vehicle on someone’s property-but out here where people live on acreage, mailboxes are at the side of one-lane roads and driveways are 100’s of feet from gate to house, the person is not going to stop unless their vehicle is disabled by whatever they hit-they are going to get away as fast as they can to avoid an insurance claim-and an angry property owner with no sense of humor.

They also probably realize that any sheriff’s deputy close enough to come and take a report is at least 20 minutes away-probably longer, answering calls for BWI on the river and people being swept away on rapids-August and September are the height of what is referred to as the drowning season here.

Besides, re-setting the mailbox is not even going to cost $20, materials and all-I braced it up temporarily with a piece of rebar and some metal strap, and hopefully can get one of the guys to help me set it in concrete over the weekend...
