Nightly news has just had a blurb about an experimental ebola vaccine being tested in Guinea.
About 4000 participants received the vaccine, and after ten days, it was 100% effective against catching the disease.
Just thought I'd post it!
This vaccine brought to you by murdered baby! Now, less crunchy!
They’ll scream the vaccinators are sterilizing everyone, light them on fire with burning tires and then throw them down wells.
Africa wins again.
That’s great news. The chemical compound is not given, maybe it’s still a corporate secret. They tested this vaccine with 4000 people. I hope the control group is closely, and I mean closely monitored, because those left untreated by this new vaccine now have the virus.
Like in in Kenya? https://www.cogforlife.org/tetanusAntiHcGAfrica.pdf
100% effective?
Even the flu shot is only about 60% effective most years. Almost NOTHING is 100% effective.
Smells like BS from the start.
Has Ebola hit Guinea yet? I guess if aspirin would be 100% effective if you aren’t even exposed.
The low effectiveness of the influenza vaccine is a result of the high variability of the virus. There are countless variants of the flu virus, and the vaccine can only protect people from 3 or 4 of them. In addition to the many variants of influenza virus, the virus constantly changes itself so that the immune system does not recognize it, making a previously immune person no longer immune. Virus changes are why the flu vaccine was so ineffective this year.
Ebola, on the other hand, is a fairly stable virus. In the 40 or so years since Ebola was first identified, the virus has hardly changed at all. Thus, if a vaccine can be developed that causes immunity to Ebola, almost everyone will become immune upon receiving the vaccine. Measles vaccine, for example, achieves over 99% immunity after two doses.
If you see an article with more details, please post it. Thank you.
To measure 4,000 test as effective, that would require intentionally exposing 4,000 people to Ebola.
I doubt that a lot.
Sure. I just found one. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jul/31/ebola-vaccine-trial-proves-100-successful-in-guinea
For an idea of the effectiveness, we would have to know how many people in the area would normally contract Ebola.
I suspect that is a very small number.
Looks like they did a pretty good job. Very positive.
From the Guardian:
“When Ebola flared up in a village, researchers vaccinated all the contacts of the sick person who were willing the family, friends and neighbours and their immediate contacts. Children, adolescents and pregnant women were excluded because of an absence of safety data for them. In practice about 50% of people in these clusters were vaccinated.
Thank you. That article gave the information I was looking for.
Did they mention the fact that, although you will never, ever get Ebola you die and rise again as a Zombie? Might be worthwhile to know.

This is incredible news.

2) Against *that* strain. Remember the issues with influenza vaccines.
3) I'M not gonna try it...
