I prefer American eagles. look and feel of currency - recognizable and hard to duplicate.

“. I do have some trade goods, but very little in metals, but to show just how FReepers are equal opertunity ‘bitchers’ I have got a number of down right nasty post and Freep mail some accusing of being a Gold bug metals troll and I’ve gotten e-mails from gold bugs because I push preps over metal! Go figure!!”

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. You do a great service with this ping list and you get a hard time over it?

Just ignore them. The rest of us appreciate you!

You can make your bleach from dry hypochlorite.

The need for "pieces of eight" may present itself again.

Check out the 50 gram Gold Degussa CombiBar is an exquisitely crafted bar that offers detachable increments for smaller trades or to offer as gifts.

I have bought from Kitco, but at a friend’s suggestion have also used https://www.texmetals.com/. I suggest keeping an eye on both. Texas Metals has free shipping ($1K minimum order) and will accept a personal check (after it clears of course). Kitco charges $30 shipping and requires a wire transfer ($20) for payment. So at any given time one is better than the other for delivered price.

With Kitco the feds are not informed of your purchase. Don’t know about Texas Metals in that regard.

I’ve been getting various rounds rather than bars, for no particular reason, I just like them more.

Do you have a die to divide the coins with?

“You can make your bleach from dry hypochlorite.”

Not sure, but isn’t that somewhat dangerous to store and handle?

I took care of several commercial pools and converted everything to concentrated liquid bleach (double the household stuff) to avoid the powders and tablets.

Counterfeiting of bars and such is common.

Hard to counterfeit an old circulated coin.

That’s why you buy from a reputable company, and not a pawn shop.

“That’s why you buy from a reputable company, and not a pawn shop.”

But what do you do when you try to trade that noname piece of metal for something you need. Doubt you will be able to get it assayed or vouched for.

No, but I have an idea for a tool that can cut them.

This is a freebie for someone that has the resources. (you may be able to sell the tool,BTW)

Think Bolt cutters with metal cutting blades (hardened steel) in the pieces of eight pattern.

The problem is not who you buy from!

The problem is that it is difficult to get people to accept them as ‘money.’

It probably goes without saying here, but buy food, water and some way to defend it before buying any precious metals. I don’t think you can go wrong having a bunch of pre-1964 dimes and quarters on hand.

I also suggest regularly taking money out of the ATM and hiding it away when you can. You might not be able to take out $5,000.00 easily in one day anymore, but you can take out $200 a day for a few weeks. There are many sorts of potential crisis situations where electronic payments and withdrawls will be impossible but cash will still work for a few days, for those who have it.

Did you hear that Janet Yellen used a new form of Quantitative Easing to create 40 billion dollars worth of 90% silver coins out of thin air in one month?
No - you didn’t!

When WTSHTF big time, ammunition will be the new coin of the realm. I’m investing accordingly.
