Just for comparison, a 13 foot reticulated python isn't going to eat anyone either. If a 13 foot retic can't eat a person, a 5 foot boa certainly can't. Here is my daughter with said 13 foot reticulated python.... Again, note the fear and terror in her eyes... NOT.

Thanks, the kidlet would say the snakes. She loves them so much. Did I ever show you the evil shot I took of her with Brownie? Check this out...

She may be getting another reticulated python soon. Sigh.

Susquehanna River? The same place of the famed Susquehanna hat company on Beagle street?

I read perfectly well. I’m just tired of people being pansies about a perfectly harmless animal. And no, a 5 foot long boa won’t hurt anyone.

Pythons and boas tend to grow as they age. Pythons in the Glades are eating most of the small animals in the Glades and giving the gators a run for their money. They kill pets and farm animals.”Pet” boas and pythons have killed small children in homes. How does noting that this invasive species has wrought havoc in the glades make ma a “pansy?”

LOL... yes, pythons and boas grow as they get older. However, that is the end of the factual information you provide. Allow me to educate you.

1. Pythons eat about once a week for the first year of their lives. After that, they will eat once every few weeks. During breeding season, mature pythons usually don’t eat or eat very little. For your statement to be accurate about them eating all the small animals in the Everglades, the number of pythons present would have to be in the hundreds of millions. There aren’t even 1% of that number in the Everglades.

2. Gators will eat all but the largest of the Burmese pythons. A 12 foot Burmese will be killed by a 9 foot alligator in most situations.

3. There is one recorded and confirmed death by a boa constrictor. It occurred in the US and involved alcohol. The owner, an older gentleman was drunk, took his boa out to show off, lost his balance, the boa grabbed to hang on and essentially cut off the blood flow to the mans brain. There are no other deaths by boa constrictors in the world that have ever been confirmed.

4. Every instance where a python has killed a person in the US, the snake was abused and/or neglected. No person or child in the US has ever been eaten by a boa or any species of python.

5. Burmese pythons are dying out in the Everglades. They have been for years. The reasons for this are varied but it comes down to this simple fact. The Everglades are barely able to sustain this particular species of snake and the numbers of snakes living to maturity are far fewer than what is required to sustain a viable population.

I work with boa constrictors and reticulated pythons daily. I know these animals inside and out. People that fear monger and throw incorrect information out concerning these animals do so out of ignorance and an unfounded fear. 99.999999% of them have never held or worked with even a native species of snake... no need to even think about them working with an exotic. So, yes, those people who fear monger and try to scare people about these animals in my book are pansies. Because they don’t know what they are talking about. I have harsher words but am being polite on FR.

You want to know what is killing off the animals in the Everglades? I’ll tell you. It’s not the snakes. It’s the damage done by the Southern Florida Water Management Agency when they started diverting the flow of water in the Everglades. The Burms showed up in the Everglades after Hurricane Andrew. The die off of the animals there began in the early 1970’s. SFWMA realized the problem and immediately made the war cry about the Burms to divert the attention so that they wouldn’t get sued or face criminal charges.

Do the Burms belong there? No, but they’re not the monster under the bed people are claiming they are. They’re not going to attack anyone and they’re not going to eat anyone. Burms want nothing to do with people at all.

Oh, and the infestation of exotic snakes (not just Burms but quite a few venomous species) in the Everglades weren’t from released pets but came from the destruction of the importation and breeding facility located there when Andrew hit.

I’ve been working with exotic snakes for years. Before I actually started working with them, I believed the BS that was spewed out concerning the Everglades. Personal experience with these animals made me question what was being said. In a nutshell, there is no way a Burmese python will survive winter even in Tampa. There is no way Burmese pythons are wiping out the fauna in the Everglades as is being described. You would need between 50 and 100 snakes per acre to do that and I’m sorry, it’s simply not happening.
