This would take care of the part of a DWI that has always troubled me. In telling someone not to drive you are effectively placing them under house arrest. And since this usually results in the loss of a job that gives them a great deal of time and an excuse to drink.

I don’t know how to argue with that.

Harmless Teddy Bear - I agree with you completely. In Michigan, where I live, If you are convicted of your second DWI you automatically lose you license for up to, meaning at least, one year. No one can go without a driver’s license for a year in Michigan (Michigan, because of the reliance on the automobile producers has virtually no mass transit). So you either put your life on hold for a year or you drive illegally.

It’s not house arrest to not be able to drive. It just means life gets more challenging. Once driving down the road I passed a series of 5 or 6 bike rider. All were dressed like normal people with physical jobs no spandex. Each was towing something, from baby trailers to jury-rigged red wagons. And each thing being towed was filled with tools. Pretty clearly some sort of construction crew, probably got fond of tying one on near some job, and got busted. But still managing to find a way to go to work. And probably getting a lot less fond of alcohol along the way.
