I’m thinking Trump timing on immigration solutions has been about right. OTOH, I was disappointed he didn’t openly speak to blacks in Alabama.
I was concerned that he missed an opportunity to begin openly courting minorities, including Hispanics, last night.
Now, on the subject of the Hispanic vote, I’m thinking he is possibly waiting for the Pope to come and go. Then Trump can defend our sovereignty after the Pope guilts and nudges many into accepting open borders, along with the border bishops and others. The Pope departs and then perhaps Donald can bring voters back to reality.
The Establishment wants Trump run off for the crime of “nationalism”. The Cardinal of New York is already in on that sclick in the news this week.
Trump better use caution with that cardinal and anything he has to say on politics to Donald won’t be helpful.
Same with immigration enforcement.
The question should be is it a good policy and the answer is YES.
When Romney backed off like a coward and exposed his backside to the thespians in the media. They knew they had him beat just like with the 48% comment.
Rather than dubbing down like Trump would, Romney dubbed over and exposed his lack of testosterone. No one likes a wimp especially Hispanics.
Making life difficult for illegal immigrants by denying benefits that they don't qualify for as an incentive to return to their native country is a good idea. I have zero confidence that Romney would have implemented any reasonable policies and procedures to accomplish it, however.
Can’t answer your specific question. However, self-deportatioin is the only real way to lessen the illegal population. This would be done by raiding and locking up employers that hire the illegals. ALL of them to actual prison terms. And sealing the border and getting serious about deporting, of course.
I’m sure Trump doesn’t want to upset anything to bad right now until, like you say, the Pope has come and gone...
I don’t think Archbishop Dolan has any power with Trump, one being that Trump isn’t Catholic, he’s Presbyterian, and there is a lot of dirt on Dolan when he was in Michigan...
I’m Catholic and I don’t like this new Pope at all...I think he’s way off course....not sure what pushed the move of Pope Benedict but if it was for this guy to take his place, someone made a terrible mistake, and it wasn’t God, God doesn’t make mistakes....
Trump will again put the heat back on and things will start to happen, it’s still early and we have a long ways to go...but I couldn’t be happier than having Trump looking like he’s our next POTUS...
“The premise of your question is irreverent. The question should be is it a good policy and the answer is YES.”
It’s important because the people trying to drive Trump out are the same ones that think we can attract Hispanics in larger numbers if we run a nice guy. Well Romney was a nice guy, but one throw-away line in a debate from almost a year before the election cost him that support.
So given that, Republicans, this round will not be getting that support...and so the question as to whether Trump is handicapping himself in November with Hispanics is irrelevant...as all of the major candidates now have similar baggage.
But you are right, but not doubling down on his self-deportation plan, he left the base with virtually no reason to come out and vote for him - and similar with independents and Dems. He was stuck with only the base to vote for him, and with them demoralized. He’s lucky he did as well as he did.
Ive worked beside many IT workers who worked from 1 to 10 years in Japan on Japanese style “green cards”. Your information on Japan is incomplete. Japan is not as open-borders as we are. But it is far from a closed society.
One key factor is that many immigrants know some English before coming to the US as US English entertainment is worldwide and spreads the language. And on the flip side, there are large foreign language communities in the US. So a Pole, Russian, Hispanic or Brazilian who knows little English can easily find others with whom he can communicate.
I’ve often ordered from fast food workers who didn’t know English and I had to place my order in Spanish. No problem. It’s a free country. :)

Romney was right about this. If you cut off all benefits to illegals (so they can’t take advantage of teh welfare state) and make hiring them a jailable offense (so for all practical purposes they can’t get jobs), there is no reason to come or to stay — and many of them would likely just go home.
That is something that should be part of any immigration reform.
LOL he only did so because guys like you and I voted for Sarah.
I think Trump can change the entire discussion when it comes to the Hispanic vote. The GOPe thinks that the way to get their vote is to pander to them with amnesty and more immigration. Its a false assumption, the majority of Hispanics want JOBs and a strong economy, secure communities and good education for their kids just like the rest of us.
Trump has started to tap into this and he could blow the hole thing wide open. The dems and the GOPe have done nothing for Hispanics or the black community. There are a lot of low hanging votes out there that Trump can start picking off with minimal effort.
Thank you Lady. We have much in common.
These are my ruminations about Trump delaying his outreach to minorities. I could only surmise he is awaiting to assess the effects of our pope’s visit and his lefty opinions on the subjects of immigration and capitalism.
If the pope wants to go there, then Trump must be prepared to un-do the damage, and boldly go after Hispanics and minorities in the same process. Trump is nothing if not bold. He can do both. I pray it works.
Otherwise, we are very soon going to look like the same countries from which illegals came! The GOP doesn’t care where America is heading.
Women voters in 2012:
56% to 44% (12 points) for Obama
Men voters in 2012
54% to 46% (8 points) for Romney
That makes a total 20-point gender gap.
Actually it’s about whites. Win big with them and entire new states come into play, such as Michigan, PA, and others.
The others won’t give whites anything to vote for, so they drift over to the ones handing out freebies - Trump is giving them something to vote for - a country where Illegal workers are replaced by something better - JOBS FOR AMERICANS.
FIVE YEARS AGO:
Illegal immigrant families leave Arizona and its tough new law for other parts of US
June 22, 2010
The law requires police investigating another incident or crime to ask people about their immigration status if there’s a “reasonable suspicion” they’re in the country illegally. It also makes being in Arizona illegally a misdemeanor, and it prohibits seeking day-labor work along the state’s streets.

But, whatever Japan has...it is done legally!!!! That’s my main point.
Brewer and Arizona certainly tried and the law was a good and sensible law. It was wrongly disallowed by liberal judges.
