A 10-year-old boy who disappeared while hiking with family in eastern Utah has been found alive more than 24 hours after he got lost while looking for mushrooms near a remote mountain lake, the child's aunt said Monday.
Police say that Malachi Bradley got lost near a remote mountain lake near the Wyoming border Sunday morning. His aunt Lehua Estrada-Brown said she got a text from her husband at the scene saying the boy was found Monday afternoon in good shape.
"We are so relieved and happy," she said. Malachi Bradley survived in the remote, rugged area as temperatures dipped into the upper 30s overnight.

ten bucks a piece....
Yes. Two objects have a much higher chance of meeting up if one of them is stationary.
Yep, a whistle is cheap survival gear. You can hear a good whistle from quite a distance compared to just yelling, plus everyone in the area will hear it.
Blah...
No information in the article at all about how they found him. Poor reporting.
I never went into the woods without a bare minimum: whistle, little metal mirror, waterproof container of waterproof matches and compass. They weigh next to nothing. All my hiking recent years is in parks surrounding the SF Bay Area which are pretty tame compared to the Sierras, Wind Rivers, or Gros Ventre, so it’s lots,of water and some snacks.
Don’t need to use a mirror: carry a CD instead.
Still, he was a brave little guy who paid attention to training that he had received. He found stones which had absorbed heat from the sun and cuddled up with them...I've done it in training and it works GREAT.....24 hours are no big deal unless you're his age....then it is a lifetime!!!!!!
a CD??...where do you plug in the player??
A CD is light, and highly reflective of sunlight.I
Great if you are lost during the day...at night there is no sunlight.....need a gps, LED lights, smartphone....
