He apparently took heat from the Cuban community over it. His management said, “He was only wearing it to support the actor in the Motorcycle Diaries movie!” LOL.

I was in ninth grade. As a swimmer/waterpolo player, I walked home 2+ miles every day. I stopped in the Baskin Robbins every weekday, and the “hippychick” gave me a free eggnog/fudge brownie cone every day. (unless pumpkin pie was available).
She had the glasses and long dress, straight blonde hair, and owned a VW. She was a few years older, and soon invited me to Woodstock. I pondered it, but passed. I often thought how my spiritual journey would of been sidetracked.

FF to 1999. I had invented a product for BMW motorcycles, and had lots of customers around the US. One was in San Diego, and I stayed at his place on a few occasions. One of his journeys in life was as a roadie for Carlos. My only other Woodstock connection was seeing Richie Havens live at Corvallis in the early 90’s?. I took my young son, and whilst he was sleeping on a blanket, someone dancing stepped on him. At minimum, he has become a philosopher.

Yeah he’s a huge lefty.

But I think he ranks near the top of Rock guitarists.

Even the last album of his that I have, with “Smooth” on it was great music, and great guitar work.

IIRC Herb Alpert discovered Santana and signed him to A&M in a time when hispanic musicians weren’t all that welcomed.

I saw santana two weeks after woodstock at a festival. The original band was great and I am glad he is putting the band back together.. even if only for an album

I’m in love with Carol Kaye (from afar).

Oops! That’s Steppenwolf. I always get that confused with Santana. Like ‘Mexican Radio’ with Devo.

” what do you as a lighting guy have to do to save the show?”

I am a guitarist. I have supported myself as such. I have been a studio player in Cleveland and Akron for years on 6-string, Lapsteel, and pedal steel. I have recorded with master player neil Zaza. Carlos, or Deva Dip, or whatever he calls himself, is successful but boring.
Me playing pedal steel with Zaza;

Lapsteel with Neil, who would blow Deva Dip off the stage!;

Thanks. Haven’t heard that song in years and years. Have to add it my collection and explore their other works. I had no idea that was Carlos’ brother.

Doesn’t it sound like the boys from Akron though?
I don’t know if ‘Sookie Sookie’ translates well.

Wow, great playing on those tracks. Pretty pedal steel and lap work. Your man Neil there got some amazing pinches and squeals on the second one.

I'm a guitar player myself the last 50 years, hard rock to Grateful Dead to fusion to 60's Brit pop to electric blues; my heart is in Gary Moore, Clapton, Hendrix, Skunk Baxter... I've got a pedal steel and play it decently but not well, and someday I'll have Teach Your Children down...

In the meantime, it was a true pleasure to listen to your playing. Thanks much!!

Play that Pedal Steel! There’s so much there!

"Santana, the Che Guerva t-shirt-wearing commie punk."

I love Santana and have seen him live three times. But I'm not sure he's coherent enough to call a commie, or anything else

I hear that the album will include a Spanish-language klezmer number called “Oy Vey Como Va.”
