Your job is not easy getting all in order for a funeral. This usually happens after a long, long wait. Suddenly, you’re on a tight schedule, often with an equally tight budget.
I have much respect for those who can keep a cool head and an open heart at such times.

Do you mean to say(and you didn’t) that this happened at a Catholic Mass??????, If so, I’d be beating down the door of the rectory having the pastor of that church explain to me what happened.

No, no. This didn’t occur inside a church, regretfully.
The service was at a local funeral home. Two priests familiar to our family were there though. One said he recalled the look in my father’s eyes as he opened his mouth to receive the Communion Host. He said it was a look of peace and gratitude in receiving The Sacrament. That was the most “Catholic” moment of the entire service.

Very, very sorry for your loss.

Praise to the Lord the Almighty is Lutheran.
Onward Christian Soldiers is Anglican.

You may have heard something from Sr. Delores Dufner or Marty Haugen. Modern Catholic music is truly awful.

Condolences. IF you want a certain type of music at your funeral PRE RECORD IT and leave it with your will and the person you know will be in charge.

I’ve done it for myself and my husband. He will have a Military funeral with the Navy Hymn, his favorite hymn Sweet Sweet Spirit, and Echo Taps along with Amazing Grace.

Wow. These facts i didn’t know until today. I guess Catholic have been borrowing or acquiring many different kinds of music for quite some time. I definitely recall being told to use the Misslette and turn to a certain page in the songs.
I recall Praise To The Lord being played by our organist during the years I served as an Altar Boy. Shortly after dinosaurs ceased to roam the earth.

There’s a lot of wisdom in your post #37. Thanks for sharing about your wife’s funeral and service.

I cannot imagine your loss, and it speaks well of you that you can so evenly discuss this event only five months out.

In my early sixties now, I thank the Lord for each new day, and the realization that some don’t get the privilege of seeing a new day.

Thanks to Him, I know my eternal home is secure, but I must remember to seek His will each day and not my own.

We still have to deal with the cares of this world. I pray that He holds you close and sets your feet on a straight path.
God bless.
