I didn’t know there were alligators in Texas.

To be fair, I didn’t realize there were so many here either until I moved to this region. They are even finding them much farther north of where we are. Almost every neighborhood up here has a “water feature” if they don’t have a natural lake or pond, they make one. And they also have signs saying to stay out of the water and to contact the game warden if you see an alligator. We see them often and there is a story at least once a month (of not more often) of police officers having to catch a gator in someone’s driveway or back yard.

Apparently cause it’s swamp and they don’t know Florida from Mississippi from Louisiana from Texas.

Dangerous man-eating reptiles are not my favorite creatures-I’ll gladly live here with no “water features”, a colder winter, drier climate, etc-I’d much, much rather back out of a hiking trail if I see mountain lion or feral hog tracks than be watching out for a hungry, 8-9 ft. reptile to emerge from the river...

I would love to go stay at Caddo Lake for a vaca, though-my 1st husband and I used to go there every year-what a beautiful place...

Alligators have been in East Texas as long as I can remember-Texas’ eastern area has the same climate as Louisiana, where there are alligators all over the place. They are highly adaptable, too, having been around for a few million years, a colder climate is probably no big deal to them, as long as they can winter in a sheltered place-it would probably take another ice age to bother them.

We quit working at noon because it was 90 and no breeze out there-then I wasted gas-and my lunch time-doing an estimate for a patio for a customer who isn’t even ready to decide if she wants a deck, patio or Florida room-wish she’d have told me that in the first damned place...

No matter what Jeb talks about
The effect is still soporific-
Whether he is completely vague
Or is all precise and specific

Obviously he won’t do anything
To stop any illegal immigration-
Hotels need really cheap labor
Where the rich go on vacation

The GOP establishment thinks
They should chose the nominee-
But Jeb simply does not appeal
To those people like you and me...

I’m not sure I understand your question. Are you asking why alligators would be in Texas?

We even had a few out in West Texas on ranches - although that was not as common as here. We visited a local State park a few years ago to see the gators in the lake there. I was actually stunned at the observation dock - the gators could easily walk down that dock and trap you out there. It totally creeped me out....that plus a little while after leaving the dock I photographed two alligators just lying in the sun blocking the sidewalk.... the kids had taken a nature walk and had to walk around some snakes - I was not interested in going back to that area.

I saw that craziness once, when MrT5 was TDY in Florida-we went to one of the parks near the everglades-tourists were walking around taking pictures of alligators snoozing at the edge of the water, on the walkways and piers, etc-while screeching kids and barking dogs practically stepped over them. We were waiting for one of them to wake up hungry, and grab a kid or dog.

You have to wonder if anyone is thinking about the liability, possible lawsuits, etc-after all, you don’t see parks in the mountains in other states where the tourists and hikers walk right up to sleeping bears to take pictures-it makes no sense at all...

Before someone mentions it-I’m aware that there are people who go to nature parks and walk right up to bison, moose, etc-and get injured or killed. At one of the wildlife parks about 40 miles from here, we watched a really dumb tourist drive right up to a group of several ostriches-after being told by a park employee not to even think of doing that-and getting both doors of their truck kicked in, and an angry ostrich almost got right inside-people like that are obviously a sandwich or two shy of a picnic, or maybe Darwin contenders...

The ranchers and wildlife park people who have ostriches say they are always pissed about something, hate everyone and will go after humans, vehicles and anything else without warning-they are supposedly quite capable of kicking a human to death. A hawk or a golden eagle is the biggest bird I want around me...
