My belief is that we are so divided that it wouldn’t matter what a candidate said, we would support “our side”. I think trump is scary weird, but I’d vote for him over anything from the dem side.

The “white guilt” is entirely accurate. It’s more accurately the guilt felt by people who know that they aren’t achievers, but are where they are mostly because of luck or who they are. It’s why actors are so bad about this kind of stuff.
They know they aren’t doing anything to earn $1 million for a sitcom episode. So they feel guilty.
On a smaller scale, “connected” white liberals know they are only making decent money cause they were lucky enough to go to the right schools and meet the right people. They feel guilty that they haven’t really worked or earned what they have.
Hence the entire complex about trying to use the gov’t to “improve” the situation of others. And the complete discounting of how natural talent and effort play a huge part in the success of most people.
