Some schools here started last week. It would not have surprised me if we did, but we didn’t. The 31st is late, but so is Labor Day this year. Bit earlier down here (NE GA, outside ATL) - St Ronnie started her pre-school setup week of July 27-July 31, then the students began the first Monday in August.
“Labor Day” starting date? Been in class five weeks by then!
