I had the same thought. Bike riding is legitimate phys ed and much more useful than much of what is done in PE.

But, I share your concern that this could be part of a long term anti car program.

I’ve been known to leave my manual transmission car running with the door open in the hopes of getting a good laugh when a car thief tries to take it.

I actually like the bikes idea. I’d like better if they teach them to swim. 75%+ of blacks can’t swim and just die if they fall in 6 ft. of water.

"In 3rd grade, they teach them how to steal bikes."

Being able to ride the bike you steal is a hell of a lot better than having to walk with it, or run alongside it during your getaways.

"Can you spell Libility? With a capital L!"

No Dodge Ball, but bike riding so you can crash and burn.

It least they still have PE. Other than the massive expense to taxpayers for the bikes, I don’t have a problem with it.

Saw an article in the WSJ couple weeks ago.

Was surprised how many millenials can’t ride a 2-wheel bike or swim.

50 years ago that number was almost zero.

Thats your DAD`S job.

You've identified the problem.

True, that would be useful as well.

That's your DAD`S job.

Please define this unusual term, "DAD". Is this a mythical being? What role does he play?

Prepare the next generation for the managed decline when no one will be able to afford cars.

I thought the millenial hipster types are the "Critical Mass" crowd.

Not familiar with that term as applied to society?

For once, I agree with the schools. I wish my parents had let me have a bike or taught me to ride one when I was a kid. (My parents .... A whole ‘nother story. Sigh.) Anyway, my now-husband taught me to ride as an adult but I’m a crummy and timid rider because you really need to learn that sort of thing when you’re young. So yeah, it’s really the parents’ place to do this, but it’s D.C. A lot of parents who just can’t cope in that area, I imagine.

My Father taught me how to ride a Bike without Training Wheels and he even bought me a Schwinn Stingray.

How times have changed when there is a lack of Fathers in the Home. A big Thank You to LBJ and the Democrat Party.

Yes, but now Tx, the ‘father’ is the govt.
Only govt. can teach the kids.
It’s a warped world out there now.

Critical Mass is a bunch of cyclo-anarchists that like to have these rides where they block traffic and make a major nuisance of themselves. Not good PR for bicycling at all.

If only they were graded solely on their no-handed Supermans, just like the white kids are.

I believe tail whips, like aerial 360s, are good for extra credit.

I used to ride Critical Mass in San Francisco.

The only time I have ever seen overt pot smoking in front of the police with no repercussions.

On a positive note, if they forget their lock combination or key they are already adept at, er, freeing their designated ride.
