I’m more than a little concerned about the fact that Trump doesn’t seem terribly interested in the constitution combined with his true believers who openly state that they no longer care about it either.

I think the most likely scenario if Trump miraculously got elected would be impeachment and democrat rule for good.

I’m always wary of “populists” who come out of nowhere in a time of crisis and are adored by the angry crowds. That usually doesn’t end well.

That's an out and out mischaracterization of the vast majority of his supporters. I saw that story get hot on FR for a day or so and haven't seen much of it since. IIRC, somebody posted a thread about allowing him to be a dictator and he got absolutely SLAMMED by Trump supporters here for advocating the trashing of the Constitution.

Of course Trump has his share of fanatics and loonies. I won't deny that. Statistically bound to happen.

And the only thing I've heard that you could even reasonably claim was a "lack of interest" in the constitution was his questioning the true meaning of the 14th amendment. And doing so in the face of the so-called "scholars" that think the 14th automatically means birthright citizenship for children of illegals.

I was actually impressed that he took the time to review the 14th and consult with his own legal advisors as to whether the common, accepted interpretation of it could be challenged.

If he's elected, one presumes that the Republicans would remain in control of the House (at least - we have a big majority there). Likely, Republicans will also maintain Senate control. Heck, their majorities will probably expand. So how, exactly, is an impeachment going to happen then?

As for Dem rule for good, I'd be a WHOLE LOT more concerned about a much more realistic possibility, one which has been planned for about 50 years, which is a massive change in the electorate brought about via immigration. Get amnesty for 30 million or more illegals, and tens of millions of new Dem voters come into our political process. Where's the Constitution going to be then, when they can shut us out of the White House for 20 or more years and elect another Obama-type who will run roughshod over it? You want to preserve the Constitution? Yes? Good, so do I! Let's stop amnesty, let's get rid of as many illegals as possible, let's stop the birthright citizenship BS, let's end anchor babies...in short, let's try to reverse what the anti-Constitutional Dems have foisted on us since the 1965 Immigration Act. Do those things, and the electorate will be a good deal more conservative in 5 or 10 years - and then the Constitution will be a lot safer.
