A teenager apologized on Thursday to an Ohio teacher who suffered brain damage when her head was split open by a rock he dropped from a highway overpass, then faced a judge who sentenced him to up to 20 years in prison.

...

Her face disfigured by her injuries and frozen in a perpetual smile, Budd told reporters outside court, "I have bad days like anyone else."

After nearly dying in the July 11, 2014, incident, Budd lost use of one eye and has undergone at least six surgeries because of her injuries. She had been riding with her family to New York City to see a Broadway play when she was struck.

... Before the punishments were meted out on Thursday, Budd's husband told the judge that his wife was forever changed.

"This is a lifelong sentence for Sharon," he said, his voice wavering with emotion. "I love her dearly. She was the rock of our house."

Tossing a large rock off an overpass is no different than randomly opening fire on traffic. Actually, the rock is probably more dangerous.

The headline is, to be generous. is misleading. To be honest, it is a lie.

If the teen had dropped a gun instead of a rock it would have been the gun’s fault. I say all rocks weighing more than an ounce should be registered and a 30 day waiting period should be required before anyone can pick one up. Seriously, the “up to 20 years” will probably mean far less in reality and far short of what should happen to the perp.

Sharon, I’m sorry,” said Lahr, 18, of New Columbia, Pennsylvania, who was shackled and wearing an orange prison jumpsuit. “I feel horrible about what happened.”

If I were the woman’s husband, give me a 5 pound sledge and I’ll make sure the punk feels horrible.

Cut him some slack. He does feel horrible,

surely you jest.....cut him some slack????.....her life is changed forever, not as the result of an unfortunate accident, but as the result of a vicious, cruel, stupid action on the part of a person old enough to know it.....sorry, no sympathy here.

20 years sounds like a good minimum

Funny how stupid pranks gone wrong end up with valid sentences due to the damage caused yet when illegals commit premeditated murder they have the "good luck" to end up in the streets again and again and again...
