Don’t miss the Biltmore Estate. It’s the largest private residence ever built in the U.S. It’s like a bit of Renaissance France in NC. They also make some pretty good wines.

Mount Mitchell is pretty cool, pun intended. It’s about 6600 feet above sea level and it has a climate similar to southern Canada.

Absolutely second the Biltmore choice! If you go allow one day minimum, unless you're only going to look at the grounds.

Check beforehand to make sure the way ahead is clear. Mrs. Dweller and I drove to N.C. some years ago, to the Asheville area, and had to detour several times due to washed out road sections on the Parkway. Be warned, few cars in N.C. have operational turn signals!
