John Paul II...
What an amazing man. I’m about to convert from The Church to Lutheran Missouri Synod, but there will always be a photo of John Paul II in my house.

I do not envy the people of Philadelphia for the upcoming Papal visit. It is going to be a madhouse.

John Paul II, Ronald Reagan, Maggie Thatcher
Because of them, eastern Europe is free, for now, anyway.
It will take another such group to keep them free. Unfortunately, I see no such group on the horizon.

Sometimes the added security and traffic control that come with a dignitary's visit outweigh any negative mob factors.

Thanks for the link. Side story:
Shortly after the Berlin Wall fell, someone at the school where I work put up a picture of Ronald Reagan talking with John Paul II. The picture was posted on the faculty lounge bulletin board. For historical reasons, of course.
Well, that offended someone else, who took the picture down. But the original poster had made many copies of that picture. So when one was torn down, another one was put up. Eventually the offended party gave up and the picture remained.
I wonder who that original poster was? :)

Well done! It is good to hear that conservatives are still in education. It must get lonely and exhausting, often. Keep up the good fight!

It is good to hear that conservatives are still in education. I think the number of conservatives at my school (an inner-city high school) pretty much mirrors the amount in the general public.
During the 2008 elections a group of teachers at my school even carpooled to go hear Palin speak at a rally!
But I must note that you won't see many conservatives in the union leadership, or among the school administrators. And that's where the real power is.

I remember the eulogy that President Bush delivered at President Reagan’s funeral: “In the last decade of his life Ronald Reagan saw through a glass darkly. Now he stands face to face with his Savior.”
I burst into tears when I heard that.
