I recall the whole Bay City Rollers thing as one big sad joke. We laughed at the constant comparison to The Beatles. I was 16 in ‘74.

I saw the cartoon and all I can say is..."poor Weird Al."

1974 was the year of "Billy, Don't Be A Hero" and "Night Chicago Died." Back in those years, you had certain pop songs that played endlessly for months at a time. Then they disappeared from the airwaves and you hardly ever heard them on the radio again.

Other examples were "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks; "Dreamweaver" by Gary Wright; "Fox On The Run" by The Sweet; "Listen to What The Man Said" by Wings...there are many others.

Speaking of crappy bands, when is the anniversary of Dexy’s Midnight Runners?

Dexys was and is still a very solid ska-tinged party band. They have a number of great albums and have been putting on killer shows for 35+ years.
