This month, as students are diving into their college studies, many are also diving into some of the coolest pools you’ve ever seen.

Increasingly, schools across the country are spending millions of dollars on recreational water amenities that would rival some of the most elaborate waterparks out there. Colleges that used to compete on the basis of libraries and majors are now turning to lazy rivers and indoor beaches to attract and entertain a new generation of students.

No wonder we must have the dumbest most credentialed young people in human history. Spending time at a college water park won't help when trying to pay down debt working at Starbuck's. Shame on these schools including some big name public universities for wasting money on these frivolities.

As a chemical engineering student, I spent around 110 hours/week on classes/homework/studying and my work-study job.

OTOH, journalism and English majors started their weekends on Thursday night.

It was hard enough keeping up with the work. It made it harder to have to do the work while others were going to pep rallies. More distractions are not needed.

If colleges are becoming amusement parks, then does that mean the professor is Goofy?

Not long ago, I saw a similar story showing the very high end rooms and amenities that are provided to students.

Much like a doctor sending a van to the homeless shelter to pick up Medicaid patients, universities see students as a warm blooded subsidy machine...only instead of Medicaid, its student loans. And they will bait their hook with water parks and plush apartments.

Its sort of a reverse retirement - you live large, while doing very little labor, for a period of years. Then you spend the rest of your life paying it off.

A $150 season pass to the nearest amusement park is WAY cheaper.

I’ve tried explaining to teens that living on campus at 18-22 to feel independent instead of at home leads to living at home ages 22-26. And would you rather be able to NOT live at home after graduation? Then live at home while you go to school.

Meh, water parks are mostly all the same. Seen one, you’ve seen em all.

Except, I hear there is a topless water park in Romania. That’s one I might go out of my way to visit!

Speaking from experience: The only ones that go topless are the ones that you wish would keep their shirt on.

Well, I’ve seen pictures of this waterpark, and that doesn’t seem to be the case in Romania!
