CHICAGO The Chicago Cubs clinched a postseason series at Wrigley Field for the first time ever, getting home runs from Kyle Schwarber, Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez in beating the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 Tuesday to win the NL Division Series in four games.
A day after hitting a postseason-record six homers, the Cubs hammered their way into the NL Championship Series by taking the best-of-five set before a rollicking crowd.

Lifelong Cubs fan here. Born and raised on Chicago’s south side. Half our family were Cubs fans, half Sox fans. My mom was the biggest Cubs fan I ever knew. She passed in 2008. I swear she was blowing that wind last night. We took her to a game at Wrigley when we were in town. Saw Sammy Sosa hit a homer. Even though she still lived there she never drove and could not get to the games. She had the best time that day. Hope they go all the way. GO CUBBIES!!!
Vaguely remember my first game ever, at Wrigley.
Dad was working Sears Tower.
Hell, I even remember Bat Day’s and the Twilight DH.
My dad stood in line at Wrigley in 45’ (he was 16) to see a World Series game when a guy offered quite a bit of money for his ticket. He figured, what the hell the Cubs will be in next year and took the cash. He’s still around, even through all the bad years. Go CUBS!
“He figured, what the hell the Cubs will be in next year and took the cash.”
So it wasn’t the billy goat after all. It was all your dad’s fault. :-)
Shoot’em while you can. They still have two series left to rip your heart out.
Lifetime Chicagoan and die-hard Cubs fan here.
What a night!
Maybe they nailed it in Back To The Future. 2015 is the Cubs year.
The last time they even made it to the World Series was 1945. That alone would be a milestone!
I hear the black cat is waiting in the wings in Queens.
I was a kid in Chicago when the Cubs were last in a World Series. It was 1945 and I was getting 10c per car as I directed them into parallel parking spaces on my street at 3826 N. Wayne Avenue.
tommy agee STILL hasn’t touched home plate !!
I’m Irish and I still carry a hand-me-down grudge over Cromwell
Trivia question: Which Cub position player was in the 1945 World Series and also in their most recent World Series appearance against the same team?
