A 24-year-old salon manager 'froze to death' inside a cryochamber after she accidentally got locked inside the machine and temperatures plummeted to minus 240 degrees Fahrenheit.
Chelsea Ake, the manager of Rejuvenice in Henderson, Nevada, was found dead inside the salon's cryochamber earlier this week by distraught employees, NBC reported.
Investigators have ruled her death 'operator error.' And preliminary findings suggest that Ake may have used the machine without any assistance and may have suffocated while inside.
Authorities with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration told KSNV that they believed Ake was in the chamber for at least 10 hours altogether.
Cryotherapy is an alternative to cold-water immersion or ice packs, but machines are never used for more than three minutes because temperatures can fall as low as minus 240 degrees Fahrenheit.
Shae-Lynn Bee, Ake's friend said: 'I do know that she was alone closing the shop up, and then did go into the machine and apparently did not turn off.'

Reminds me of the scene in the movie “ Snow Piercer” where they stick the guys arm out a portal hole for punishment until it froze solid and then broke it off....
That was one of the dumbest movies ever made...
Never mind.
I’m so hot for her and she’s so cold
Yeah, I tried re-wiring her, tried re-firing her
I think her engine is permanently stalled
She’s so cold she’s so cold.....
I really never figured Salon work was so dangerous.
I know. I can’t believe I actually watched it.
“The treatment uses extreme cold to stimulate skin sensors which activates the Central Nervous System.
This causes the release of endorphins - the body’s natural pain inhibitors and mood elevators. “
Maybe she liked it too much?
Nice Stones Reference !
Depending how quickly she was exposed to -240, she may not have had the time to think about anything at all.
And this, boys and girls, is why lockout/tag out exists.
Why or how, could or would ANYONE be so blandly stupid that they would believe that being flash frozen, even for a few moments, could possible be good for you?
I mean, wha?
That’s sad. I heard she was really cool.
It sent ice running through my veins.
That’s cold.
Why would a machine like that have a lock on the door?
And one that apparently could only be operated from outside?
he was frozen so stiff it took them three days to thaw him out for the autopsy.
Yeah, but Frankie had been warned: he should never have bought that mink coat for his wife ...
No kidding - that what i was thinking. Poor girl. I am surprised by the number of jokes on this thread. Guess it's the times we live in :o(
It’s hard to believe something this dangerous didn’t have an inside door handle. All walkin fridges and freezers do.
I loathe that band.
From what I’ve seen, this would be one of the rare female Darwin Award candidates. They are usually male.
