It wasn't necessarily the liberation of Iraq from Saddam Hussein that gave rise to ISIS, it was the total screwing of the pooch when it came to the occupation of Iraq by allied forces. Had we applied the 'Japan formula' as did MacArthur at the end of World War II, and rid them of the Shiite madness (for starters), we would not be seeing the instability we are seeing today.

A few more thoughts on this: IF we had not liberated Iraq, we would today, have not one but THREE rogue nations in that region in a race to be the first to obtain a nuclear capability, we would have Iraq of cousre, AND Iran, in addition to LIBYA, and when Gaddafi witnessed the fall of Saddam, HE approached the U.S. and the U.K. and volunteered to give up Libya's nuclear program, which now resides safely at Oak Ridge Tennessee.

Of course Gaddafi wasn't planning on his overtures to the West being eventually rebuffed, and Hillary Rotten Clinton presiding over his demise, i.e., "we came, we saw, he died!" *CACKLE*

G W Bush just had to finish his daddy's war and make this personal. As evil as Saddam Hussein was....he kept Iran in check and removing him destabilized the Middle East. Bush was tasked with getting Osama bin laden....and he just bailed on the most important task.

I said that while it was happening but gave Bush a pass as I assumed it was part of a greater plan.

Iraq and Afghanistan were 21st Century versions of Vietnam, limited wars without total victory over terrorism, the real ultimate enemy. They used better technology and strict rules of engagement, plus drones to keep casualties down.

Pakistan created the Taliban and Saudi Arabia’s religious schools nurtured the terrorism of Bin Laden.

Those nations have been kissed up to over the years and have close relations with the US.

The war was a good decision.
Saddam was openly supporting terrorism by paying the families of suicide terrorists.
He was bragging in his state papers about his nuclear mujadeen, and they did find plenty of yellow cake uranium.

It’s the reconstruction/nation building/democracy fits all that was the problem. He should have installed a dictator like the British did and focused on culture building and Christianization.

When are Baraq and Hillary Clinton going to apologize for Libya?

Saddam Hussein was executed under the law by his citizens after a trial.

Momar Gaddafi was a POW (in a war we provoked and fueled and took credit for) who was tortured, abused, and murdered in the street. That’s a war crime and it has led to unrest.

Saddam Hussein had repeated violated the peace terms of the first Gulf War. Nothing to apologize in tossing him out.

For everyone here still pretending the war was a bad idea, consider this.

We still have more than 10,000 soldiers in Korea. We lost more than 50,000 soldiers who died there.

Why did they die?

Why do we care?

Why don’t we demonize that war and demand those troops be pulled out?

We don’t because up to the Vietnam war we were not stupid.

We are now required to be stupid about war.

We have soldiers all over this planet keeping it in some semblance of order.

Pulling out so we can be “left alone” is foolish.

What if they decided to start hijacking our aircraft and crashing them into buildings?

We have no choice but oppose militarily Islamofascism.

It will be a long 100 yer cold war— but it is inevitable and it will flash hot.

Thank God Bush had the fortitude to fight for 5 years agains the Anti-American war movement.

We should keep troops in places until they change.

Even afghanistan was relatively normal in the 1960s. We allow these places to become radicalized.

Tell the Imams on Friday afternoons to shut the hell up about killing all the Jews and the Americans. We did that while we occupied Iraq.

Bush and all Presidents have their responsibilities but some of the blame given to him here would be like saying all blame for the Vietnam war rests only on LBJ when Nixon came to office. I’m not even sure if I saw the Arab spring mentioned once in the many posts I read.
