Have you checked out Subaru? I bought my 2003 Subaru Forester new in 2002 and have had zero problems with it.
At least the money won’t be used to elect corrupt, rat-bastard, union-loving politicians with the money I spent on my car, because that is exactly what happens when your money from buying that car pays those corrupt, greedy, company destroying union wages. When it doesn’t simply go to them via tax money.
I give enough money to them through money taken from my taxes against my will.
It’s your decision but I would personally not take a GM vehicle ever. I owned one years ago and it was the biggest piece of crap I ever owned. In the shop constantly and dropped its transmission with only 75k on it.
I would never recommend a GM vehicle to anyone ever.
I’ve owned cars from nearly every major manufacturer in my lifetime and The GM was the worst experience of them all.
I’d take the Nissan if I were in your shoes.
What about a really old GM...say 10 or more years old...almoat a beater?
How does the Nissan suck in catalytic converter parts and grenade the engine? Is it creating some sort of vacuum that sucks things back into the engine from the exhaust side?
The Cruz isn’t bad, but be aware it was made in Canada with Cuban parts.
So, on one hand we hate American Companies.
On the other hand you want to give your money to corrupt money-printing governments who print money to a point that is simply ridiculous, and who will be likely to be the first “first world” country to go down the crapper. (That would be Japan.)

You may want to go look and see where the money goes when you buy a GM product now. Hint: it doesn’t stay in the US. Quite a lot of it is going to China now.
There’s no reason to cross-shop and Altima with a Cruze.
The Altima is a foot longer and is a family car.
For something the size of a Cruze, cross-shop Corolla, Civic, Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda3 - all would seem better choices than the Cruze. Even a Dodge 200 might be a better choice.

Wow. Talk about piss-poor design or piss-poor implementation. There should be no way for debris to enter the intake from a process like that. I’ve noticed some of the 4-cylinder Nissan exhaust systems have the catalytic converter pretty much built in to the exhaust manifold. I’d be willing to bet if they were farther down the pipe, they’d not have that issue.
Sorry, not the intake in this setup, but sucking back in via the exhaust manifolds and valves.

Ha. I had a mid-80s Olds 98 and it went through seven (yes, 7) transmissions in less than two years. Pieces of Shite, they were and are.
I’m with everyone else—the Nissan Altima is a great car. My oldest son bought a used one (pretty sure it’s an 08) he’s put a rediculous amount of miles on it, and other than routine maintenance, NO repairs. It’s really a midsize vehicle—easy to handle.
I recently took a lease on 2015 Honda Civic, and after years of driving larger SUVs and jeeps (last Jeeep was an 08 Patriot—which I really liked—youngest son using it for college) it took me a few days to adapt to smaller size, lower to the ground vehicle—so trust me when I say after a couple days the Nissan size difference will be a non-issue.
Before we settled on the Honda, we did look at Ford Focus (we had one of those thst lasted ten years—but Ford had no lease and we needed “zero” down sign & drive arrangement for our budget.) Also checked out the Mazda 3 (great vehicle but not budget friendly. The ones we checked off the list right away—Dodge 200 and Chevy Cruz. NO comparison to the Honda, Ford or Mazda.
I like the Civic, it’s a base model sedan, but has back up camera; amazing mileage (again I’m used to a 4x4) and solid handling.

I have mapped lots of code for each vehicle from a service standpoint but also have for about every other car on the road and that gives no indication of which one is better.
I’m not going to say “Chevy, only American Hell Yeah!”
and I’m not going to say “imports are better than Obamamotors”
But I can say, I haven’t driven either one so I can’t say.
