Ferhoodle must be one of those words that became verboten during WWII. I watch a lot of British drams on PBS set in WWII (I feel like I’ve experienced the London blitz first hand) and even the music of Bach was frowned upon in England during that period (that German music, it was called). Of course I still had to struggle through it here.

In fact, where I live now (Wisconsin) school was still taught 1/2 a day in German until WWII. I have farmer neighbors who still speak with German accents even though their forebears immigrated here in 1832. I knew one lady who (after she was moved to a retirement home in her 90s) was encouraged by her daughter in law to get to know some of the ladies living their who came from a neighboring village because they also spoke German. “No, she sniffed. They sspeak low German, and I speak high German.)

Do you remember the old song about John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt? It has a line about being xxx, and xxx, and a little bit of Dutch. I was a tiny child and I asked my mother what I was, and she answered English, Irish, and little bit of Dutch. She then she whispered, “It’s really a little bit of German, but don’t tell anybody”.

Actually, she was confused, it was Swedish, but she didn’t know it then. It took Ancestry to uncover my Swedish line. She never acknowledged her strong line of Swedish (and Dutch) ancestors. She died at 101. LOL

With ‘conservatives’ like Merkel, who needs liberals?

I’m on the Putin train. He knows climate change is BS and isn’t afraid to say so.

Comes from the German "verhudeln" (synonyms: "verhunzen", "versauen").

VERHUDELN, verb. wertlos machen. zu hudeln (th. 4, 2, 1862). Eigentlich zu einem Hudel d. i. Fetzen, Lumpen machen. Die Zusammensetzung gibt die Bedeutung des einfachen Zeitwortes wieder, macht es aber durchaus transitiv. Hudeln und verhudeln ist fast nur in geistiger Bedeutung gebraeuchlich.

-Jakob Grimm

Actually, to make (something) into a "scrap" or "rag." The composite word reflects the meaning of the simple verb, but makes it by all means transitive. [The words] "hudeln" and "verhudeln" are now used almost exclusively metaphorically.

My example: Is our Constitution completely verhudelt? Not yet - but the pernicious effects of a cancerous liberalism continue to erode away our rights.

Ferhoodle must be one of those words that became verboten during WWII.

I, personally, was aware only of the Swabian verb "hudeln" in the meaning "to be rushed, to act in a rushed manner."

Nur net hudele!"

"Don't rush!" (I.e.: Calm down, take it easy!)

To be honest, I see no etymological relation to the verb "verhudeln" in the sense of "to ruin something, to reduce something to tatters."

Did more to ISIS in a few months than Obama did in years.

xsboy started his coaching gig for Gonzaga hockey yesterday, tryouts are going on now. And amazingly enough, the Gonzaga goalie coach came over and introduced himself to xsboy and it's Arturs Irbe! No idea when he started helping out, but it's pretty cool. someone needs to update his wiki page to include Gonzaga there, LOL!

I particularly liked his smack at Yellen and the Fed. I wonder if that will get more play.

The saga began in 2012 with an earlier Nuzzi expose, peaked with the conviction of Benedict XVI’s butler on charges he supplied Nuzzi with stolen documents, and ended a year later when Benedict resigned.

Quite the dig at PapaBen.

oh yeah, I thought I said. he is going to coach the JV team. gets $ for it and everything. had to do an online sexual abuse class, as a prerequisite. Anyone doing anything at a school these days has to take something like that. at least down here. He has worked it out with his ofc to go in early and leave at 3 on the days he has games/practices. xshub is going to stop in for their first game which I think is Friday evening. we don’t want to embarrass him by all showing up, but we do miss Gonzaga hockey and it will be fun to go again. so we will ease ourselves in. Gord has several Gonzaga outfits already and a hat ; )

You probably said something while I was away.

Yes, you need background checks to do anything with kids nowadays.

Except make hoagies. That’s allowed, no questions asked.

I have spent the day so far dealing with the insanity of others-and I may not be done yet...

Some people can be distracted
By sensational talk and news-
And plenty of politicians know
That is a cheap and simple ruse

The modern Roman mob is easily
Ferhoodled by all the scandal
And the driveby media puts out
Just as much as they can handle

To keep Hillary from drinking
From a justifiably poisoned cup
So bring the bright and shiny-
Bread and circuses coming up...
