Baby boomers are what’s wrong with America’s economy
Washington Post ^ | 11/05/2015 | Jim Tankersley

If anyone deserves to pay more to shore up the federal safety net, either through higher taxes or lower benefits, it’s boomers — the generation that was born into some of the strongest job growth in the history of America, gobbled up the best parts, and left its children and grandchildren with some bones to pick through and a big bill to pay. Politicians shouldn’t be talking about holding that generation harmless. They should be asking how future workers can claw back some of the spoils that the “Me Generation” hoarded for itself.

What was “invested” for the children of boomers?

The war in Iraq? It sure did give plenty of jobs to young people

Didn't baby boomers work in that economy and contribute massively to the SS system, pay taxes, purchase houses and consumer goods during that time.

Who spent the SS surpluses? Who spent all that tax money? Who made the laws that sent the manufacturing to other countries?

Who were the ones called upon to go to Vietnam? Mostly baby boomers from what I know.

“When you look at the numbers, the advantages boomers have enjoyed are breathtaking. Start with the economy. Boomers went to work in a job market that their children rightly romanticize. It delivered living-wage work for wide swaths of Americans, even those who didn’t go to college, which by the way cost a fraction of what higher education costs today, even after you adjust for inflation. A single earner could provide for a family. Employees could reasonably expect to advance in their companies and work their way into the middle class. Incomes grew across the board.”

So what did boomers do with those taxes and the money that was contributed to the economy? Who made laws sending manufacturing to other nations. Boomers with the applause of the boomers who voted for them.

Boomers soaked up a lot of economic opportunity without bothering to preserve much for the generations to come. They burned a lot of cheap fossil fuels, filled the atmosphere with heat-trapping gases, and will probably never pay the costs of averting catastrophic climate change or helping their grandchildren adapt to a warmer world.

Hey doofas, your generation is the one spending trillions based on your misguided belief that we created climate change. And your generation is the one spending trillions on solar and wind power, which will never provide reliable energy or energy that is competitive with other forms of energy. And your generation is one that wants unfettered immigration, which lowers everyone else's standard of living, while maker our country less safe. The list goes on, but you should get my drift.

Can’t fix stupid bent on inter-generational envy & blame. Uncurl from the fetal position, take the thumb out of your mouth, stop wetting the bed, and get a job.

The war in Iraq had the people and congress behind it so it was a national thing not a generational thing.

It was a national thing in that boomers voted for it, didn’t bother to pay for it, and had millennials die in it.

Certainly cross-generational

Why the government invested our SS payroll taxes in infrastructure, education and other programs like “Midnight Basketball” that would prepare a wonderful economy for you all!

LOL!~
You children elected Obama and, as expected, his pervert-funding and Obamacare.
Enjoy living in your mother’s basement, you voted for it.

Don’t like what the government has done to you then blame the government, not the ones the government tells you to blame.

I blame the corrupt politicians for making the country the way it is today. The last 8 years we had both parties working together against the interests of the American people. The uniparty has been attacking patriotic Americans like never before.

How many people in my generation are

1) In Congress?

2) The President?

3) On the Supereme Court?

4) Control state governments?

Again, compare the world of 1980 (when boomers started to come of age) to today.

Debt- 20 trillion up

Illegals- Poured into this country after the 1986 amnesty and nothing was done to stop it

Cost of college- Thanks to the boomers, every kid growing up in the ‘80s was considered “Special” and needed “Self esteem” so of course qualified or not they had to go to college. Boomer parents, rather then being responsible stewards and saying “save money to pay for it” co-signed student loans, helping increase the cost of college

Jobs being shipped overseas- NAFTA, signed by a boomer President with a boomer Congress cheering on.

Shall I go on?

There are so many articles on TV, print, internet etc. that pit one group of Americans against another. Class, race, religion have for seven years been used to divide us.

No wonder why people feel (instinctively), that CWII could be upon us.

So you probably have no problem with the $9 Trillion that OBWANKANOBEE has spent YOUR money on? Because those are NEW $s and yours and all future generations. Stop being a tool and fight for what’s going on today and not lingering in the past like some OLD curmudgeon!

What infrastructure? Have you seen the crumbling roads you drive on?

Education? The generations today are some of the dumbest in the history of America, thanks mostly to the parents who raised them.

Young people put Obama in office? How many people under the age of 35 actually vote? Boomers are and have been the largest voting block in this country since the turn of the century.
