I do it on purpose. Just bottled 5 gallons last Saturday. Should be fit to drink in a couple of months. Although a good long 6-8 month rest is better.

The British forbade the Colonies to purchase goods from other than themselves, which was a problem when Madeira was the tipple of choice amongst the strickly uppa crust. A fellow in Boston owned a fast sloop named the Liberty that the British foully and unjustly accused was involved in wine smuggling, and then they confiscated it and used it to run down other smugglers. The fellow’s name was John Hancock, and of course he was as innocent as the day is long, M’Lud. No way he was smuggling wine. No one knows how it got aboard. Well, mostly no one.
