Especially when all the $20 an hour welding jobs are being done by illegals for minimum wage if that. Outside of big union/govt contract jobs like ship building, ordinary welding is almost dead for actual welders. A guy from Guatemala is doing it for cash.

Got a friend who welds stainless steel for dairies. I inherited (bought an old closed dairy farm once) lots of high quality stainless steel pipes & buckets & cans. I give them to my friend and he gives me back some of it he has turned into boat parts:)

I'm sorry, I have to disagree. I work in a shipyard on the gulf coast in Alabama. The welders don't come from Guatemala, they come from Mexico. By the hundreds. In all honesty, though, It is virtually impossible to find a young U.S. citizen welder. We are a dying industry.

Welders are typically not done by migrant workers. A decent welder can quickly begin to make $20 an hour and easily get up to $30/hour. They will be in heavy demand for many many years to come.
