I have discovered that Arlo Guthrie’s lefty politics are pretty mild compared with others in folkie showbiz. It’s kind of a joke to him. He’s not a Pete Seeger or Joan Baez.
But his father Woody Guthrie!? He didn’t take up singing for the troops until the U.S. was firmly committed as an ally of the Soviet Union. His guitar (actually several) were inscribed, “THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS”. Socialism or death was Woody Guthrie’s ideology.
Anyway, have a happy Thanksgiving.
Or are we now supposed to call it “National Indigenous Peoples’ Genocide Day?”
