You realize that dogs have limited ability to reject body heat and panting is one of the main avenues, so what you in your munificence consider silly stuff could be deadly serious to the dog. Personally I have a grip......it’s on the tool I would be more than happy to use on animal abusers, because usually it’s the animals before the children.
Yep. I have three dogs. Love ‘em all. A hound, a golden retriever and a maltipoo. The hound was dropped off as a puppy by our place.
I personally would not do what this woman did. But I’m not binary on reasonable behavior. There is not “perfect pet owner” vs “should burn in hell for swatting their dog.”
I cut people a lot of slack for all are sinners. And let’s be frank here: Duct taping the dog for 2 seconds would not be harmful. Nor would 4 seconds. Ten days would be really bad. So would five. One minute? Sorry, I have no compassion for the dog. None.
Yeah, in spite of their “need to pant”. Was the dog uncomfortable? you bet. The woman will probably now know that it hurts the dog more than she realizes and won’t do it again. But the dog is fine. It is not even scarred for life.
My position on this story is not even about the dog. It’s about the insane and irrational judgementalism of a culture that doesn’t even really know where it gets its values from in the first place. Just read what these nuts are saying about this. It’s hard to take any of them seriously:
