Over Thanksgiving, I briefly visited the Azores, an archipelago in the middle of the North Atlantic, home to Lajes Field, a Portuguese Air Force Base that's also home to the US Air Force's 65th Air Base Wing.

Don't know anything about this story. Don't know the background. Don't know the first thing about any of it.
I ran into this just by pure chance.
But it seems interesting, maybe it makes sense to post it here.
That's all. Just posting it, because maybe this is a good article. Maybe.
Who knows. Here it is.
Thanks for posting.
I did catch them publishing a faked photo of "evidence" of an an explosion at Iran's Fordow underground nuclear enrichment site.
Maybe Argentina can fight them over this...
And Putin is going to give Gitmo back to Cuba, who will in turn give it to Russia for a Naval/Air Force base.
I meant Obama will give Cuba Gitmo to give to Putin...
There is no way they could make a military presence there. No chain, no supply lines. If hostility broke out, this base could be taken over in a day or so. Supply ships would be sitting ducks for our Atlantic submarine fleet. An underwater Marianas Turkey Shoot. This is just blustering by China.
I was in the Azores last month and flew in to Lajes field. It is a ghost town. I had heard the Chinese were interested and had hoped it was a false rumor. If we abandon that base the Chinese will most likely make a move for it.
