Bet Trump might have something to say about this.

Actually that was part of the reason I posted this.

Trump seems to be the ONLY American politician, who is saying we have sold out, our very own industry. Big time.

Democrats and Republicans both. Everyone.

I completely agree with that. America badly, needs to rebuild our own country for a change.

America first.

I’m sorry, but why would anybody believe anything a presumably college educated “NEWS” reporter says when they (and their editors) don’t know how to write a sentence in English.

I’ve actually been to church in China. Both a “house church” and a “3-Self” church. I have a friend who resigned his job in the CCP after his conversion and started a new church 3-Self church in his neighborhood. I know what people give up. I also know the PRC does not directly interfere with the doctrine of the Protestant 3-Self churches and hasn’t since the Cultural revolution. In my experience the persecution comes not so much from the Central government as it does the local cadres because the local churches attempt to make them uphold the law.

Churches are no more persecuted than other groups that want an accountable government.

There are restriction, no doubt and I did not say there were not problems but only that over all the society there is about as free as the US. The big problem Christians face in China is that they do not bow to the corruption of the state. You can’t ever get to the front of the line for a building permit without it so they can never get a building.

The largest issue is to get China to follow its constitution.

I feel I was freer to present Christian ideas in the classes in a Chinese university than I was at the University of Guam so long as it was identifiable relevant to the curriculum.

I have a few. All pre-Obama and none bought from a GM dealer.

I figure they are exempt.

Not sure what I will do if and when I need to get something newer.

Doesn't say much for the US nowadays, does it?

I think GM is testing the waters. If there is no opposition from consumers, expect to see more cars made in China. I agree with you, NOT a good move on GM’s part.

Ditto for our household and family as well! We will never buy GM again, ever!

U.S. taxpayers lose $11.5 Billion on GM bailout deal. Bondholders end up with 10 cents on on the dollar. Just say NO to GM!

I lived in China for many years. The society there is basically as free as the US.

You’re joking right?

I spent two weeks in China a few years ago. Very eye opening trip. There are many differences, but for starters:

1. The Internet is heavily censored. You cannot access FB in China (w/o a bad of tricks). Likewise, you are limited in what books & newspapers you can buy. Much of the TV fare is pure propaganda. {I found a series on heroic Chinese soldiers vs. Japanese occupiers in WWII to be a laugh riot]
2. Investments of Chinese citizens are restricted
3. You cannot just purchase a car. You have to take a number.
4. If you buy a house, your family can only keep it for 99 years.
5. Religious freedom is tenuous. While I didn’t experiences this directly (as I didn’t try to attend services on my trip), we had some Chinese visitors here subsequently (for about 4 months). One of their parting remarks about what they liked about America was: a) orderly traffic, b) clean air/good environment, c) open Internet, and d) ability to worship freely.
6. There are Communist Party representatives in most workplaces. [Some say that these are equivalent to our Federal Government inspectors, but I doubt it]

So Ford is going to build in Mexico and Chrysler is owned by Italians. What do you do? Buy Korean or Japanese?

GM is the typical, 21st American company whose goal is to maximize profit by selling to Americans while making nothing in America. In the long term, it simply is not sustainable, but most companies can’t think beyond the next quarter, let alone 20 years down the road.

Henry Ford was a flawed man, but he was smart enough to realize that there had to be a prosperous Working class (if not Middle class) to buy his products. That was then. Today, most American corporations truly believe that the Government will just GIVE the American people the $$ to buy their products. The long-term viability of that assumption does not seem to concern them. It is the height of short-term thinking, but it is what it is.

I left out the Chinese one child policy too. It was in force back them, but since has been dropped. Even so, a very chilling experiment in social engineering.

Before I’d buy a Chinese made car I’d buy a Schwinn.

I think Schwinns are also now, made in China.

Just saying.

I am not certain about that, but I recall hearing I believe a few years ago, that all bicycles sold in America are now imported.

Anyone who knows differently, feel free to challenge this assertion. I am not 100% certain.

The Cato Institute puts out the Human Freedom Index which ranks 152 countries on their civil, economic and personal freedom.

http://object.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/human-freedom-index-files/human-freedom-index-2015.pdf

The USA ranks 20th and China ranks 132nd.

Hong Kong ranks 1st and Iran is last at 152nd.

A lot of high end bicycles are made in the USA (Trek carbon-fiber frame bikes for example, but the current Trek CEO is a WI leftie unfortunately). On the low end there is this USA supplier for Walmart: http://www.bca.bike
